Ibrahim is a Ph.D. candidate in History at the University of Minnesota. His research and teaching focus on U.S. immigration, transnational migrations, and the Black diaspora. Currently, Ibrahim is completing his dissertation, which investigates the history of Somali migrant laborers who worked aboard British steamships and later settled in the United States and the United Kingdom during the first half of the twentieth century.
Before graduate school, Ibrahim spent nearly a decade reporting on immigration and labor issues in Minnesota. His work has been published in outlets such as MinnPost, MPR News, Sahan Journal, and The Nation, among others. He has been recognized with multiple awards, including the MLK Commitment to Serve Award in 2018.
