Job Seeker: Dorcas
One Family's Journey to Safety and Hope for a Better Future
Leaving Nigeria was the hardest decision Dorcus ever had to make. But the safety and security of her children demanded that she embark on a hard and lonely journey to the United States. “I had a lot of questions and fears about how I was going to get a job and support my children,” said Dorcus.
While waiting 18 long months to get a work permit, Dorcus learned about Daily Work through her church. As part of getting job-ready, she volunteered at the church and a local community center. Daily Work helped her translate those experiences into work skills and build a resume.
Dorcus was a teacher in Nigeria, but her sights were set on a career in healthcare. Daily Work supported her in taking the first step by helping her secure a MicroGrant to enroll in classes to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
Daily Work solves problems. They have been a wonderful resource to help me work through my fears and questions.

Today, Dorcus works full-time as a CNA at a local nursing home, and her daughter is determined to go to medical school. “I want my kids to see me as a leader and know that they can be a solution to their generation.”
