Daily Work is grounded in the belief, expressed so memorably by Senator Paul Wellstone, that “we all do better when we all do better.” Our community is built on human connection and a shared commitment to supporting one another, recognizing that each person brings unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives. When those individual strengths come together, they create a stronger and more connected whole.
That belief is reflected not only in how we partner with job seekers, but also in how the people on our team work together. Luisa Armendariz joined Daily Work as our client services coordinator in late March, bringing their own strengths, perspective, and commitment to how we work together. Luisa recently shared what drew them to the organization, what they value about our community, and what gives them hope.
What drew you to Daily Work?
I was drawn to Daily Work because of its mission to support immigrants. After the occupation of federal forces here in the winter of this year, our Minnesota community was being terrorized. I wanted to be a part of work that was actively standing up to defend and support immigrants, that valued what they do for our community, and that created a safe space for them during a time full of fear. I was also drawn to Daily Work for its focus on supporting individuals during the job search process. Many families' resources are being stretched thin. Knowing that Daily Work can meet people where they are and provide assistance is the type of work that I wanted to be a part of.
What do you hope job seekers experience when they work with us?
I hope that job seekers experience a welcoming environment first and foremost, where we can create an atmosphere in which it is okay to be vulnerable. I aspire to be part of an environment that job seekers can turn to while navigating the bumpy terrain of employment. I hope they leave feeling prioritized and seen and can trust the people at Daily Work to advocate for their needs.
What do you appreciate most about being part of the Daily Work team?
Out of the many things that stand out to me about Daily Work, the people who come in to receive services and our team are what make this space so special. The Daily Work team is made up of so many brilliant and kind people who elevate the work simply by being themselves. Our job seekers also make this work so meaningful by sharing their stories and celebrating their triumphs. Daily Work revolves around human relationships like these, and they make me excited to come into the office every day.
What gives you hope?
Being connected to my friends and family is always a fountain of hope for me. Anytime I get to have a meal with my parents or my partner's parents, I feel the goodness in the world. Whenever I have the chance to spend time in nature, I can pause, reflect on what we are living through and what may still lie ahead, and feel grounded. Those moments help me stay connected to the possibility of a better world and to my role and our shared role in building it.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I am an artist and love taking my film camera everywhere I go. I am also involved in filmmaking and enjoy supporting my friends and fellow artists in their creative work. I am passionate about storytelling and mobilizing community through art. I also love baking and get really serious about perfecting the ultimate chocolate chip cookie recipe.
